The January / April 1998 edition of School of Law Newsletter reported on the first Murdoch Law Alumni event:
On 24 March 1998, in the lead-up to the incorporation of the Murdoch Law Alumni (expected to occur by the end of June next), the Alumni Organising Committee held a Launch event at Club Murdoch at the University. News of the event was given in an insert in Brief, the magazine of the Law Society of Western Australia, in the previous issue of the Newsletter (which was mailed out to over 350 alumni for whom we have a mailing address, and in invitations to alumni (to the same address).
A very successful event resulted. Over 70 alumni as well as present and former staff of the School of Law joined our special guests Sir Ronald Wilson and the Vice Chancellor Professor Steven Schwartz. Master of Ceremonies was Shaun Temby. The Vice-Chancellor formally introduced the principal speaker Sir Ronald Wilson. Sir Ronald’s association with the Schol goes back to its earliest days, and he has been a frequent visitor to it, most recently as the School’s inaugural Distinguished Visiting Jurist. He was able to remind all at the gathering of some of the events in the early life of the School. The Dean Professor Ralph Simmonds proposed a vote of thanks to Sir Ronald.
The evening proved an excellent way of catching up with old friends, and the Murdoch Law Alumni plan to hold future such events. Watch this space!
